Hi,
This is my first post on the website... :)
I have an UK pop rock tune that was in heavy rotation on the radio (Hungary) between 1988-1990.
From what I remember, the tune sounded like Van Halen and had a very catchy synth solo near the end, which stuck in my head ever since and which I tried to reproduce. (I might not have all the bass notes right though but the melody was definitely this)
Thanks in advance!

Yes, that is the melody and it's definitely Status Quo!
However, this football song is dated 1994 so there must have been an earlier version (and I remembered the song having a more synth-like sound)...
Looking into this, the Wikipedia article tells that the original song in question is 'Burning Bridges' from 1988, on which the football anthem was later based on.

(Nevertheless, it would've been quite interesting for a song titled 'Come On You Reds' be played on the radio in a then still heavily communist country... =) )
Anyway thanks for the ID - brilliant tune, was looking for this since then!!

Heh... thanks! In fact, it took quite a lot of time to note this down from memory and bring the tune to a listenable condition... phones:
